Soaking in a Giant Cauldron on Idaho’s Salmon River
Like most western states, Idaho has a ton of non-commercial, rustic hot springs on public lands. According to the folks at Hot Springs Enthusiast, Idaho has some 232 hot springs, which is more than any other state in the US. Many of these hot springs are concentrated along the Salmon River in the central part of the state.
Considered one of the few wild rivers left in America, the Salmon River winds through volcanic rock and sagebrush grasslands without one single dam hindering its flow. The Salmon River runs 425 miles dam-free before it empties into the Snake River at the Idaho-Oregon border.
On a recent trip to Idaho’s Sawtooth Range, we soaked in quite a few hot springs alongside the Salmon River from Stanley to Challis. Read about the trip in the Utah Outdoor Adventure Journal.
